I want to tell you about one of my favourite websites: TED.
TED stands for ‘Technology Entertainment Design’ and it is a series of academic conferences on a wide range of topics. They bring together top business people, scientists, philosophers, designers and many more to give short talks – from three to thirty minutes – about their work.
The website is excellent. Many of the talks have subtitles in many languages, including Japanese, and many also have the transcript in English plus translations. The transcript is interactive, so when you click on a word or phrase in the transcript, the video jumps to that point in the talk.
Here’s a good place to start:
Michael Pritchard invents a water filter
This is a scientist talking about producing clean water from dirty water. It’s very good news.
