Summer in Sendai
Wow! I can’t believe it’s already July! Time certainly does fly when you’re having fun! Summer has finally come to Sendai, and Daniel and I have found a lot of ways to get out and enjoy the season!
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga came to Japan recently and got lots of publicity. She came to tell people around the world that Japan is a safe and great place. I think it’s great that she used her fame for people on the other side of the world who she doesn’t even know. So, thank you Lady Gaga.
Before this, I was in two minds about her – no, I was in three minds about her. One mind said she’s a really nice person – she is a nice and surprisingly normal person. Another mind said she’s actually not very interesting – she’s a pop star with funny clothes and average pop music – one of many. My third mind reminded me that she’s actually a great pianist and song writer. Lady Gaga’s real name is Stefani Germanotta, and Stefani is a good musician. Please enjoy this video of Stefani when she was a little younger.
filial piety

filial piety…
Starting a Garden
Spring is here. It’s time to start a garden! A few weeks ago, Caitlin and I decided to start a balcony garden, so we went to Homac and bought some garden supplies, like soil and plant pots. We also got some plants while we were there – egg plants, cucumbers, hot peppers, tomatoes, and some herbs. So far, our garden looks O.K, although our tomatoes and cucumbers aren’t doing very well. Unfortunately, Caitlin and I aren’t very good with plants—we don’t have green thumbs. Here are some pictures of our garden. What do you think?
Easy Banana Bread!
Well, I can’t believe it’s already been a month since the big earthquake! It hasn’t been easy, but downtown Sendai is slowly going back to normal.
Some of the foods I missed the most after the earthquake were bread and cake (and hamburgers and gyoza and pizza and….). Unfortunately, I ate most of the sweets in my house very soon after the earthquake. So I was looking something good and sweet in my kitchen when I found a big bag of flour – and I remembered the delicious banana bread my mom used to make for me when I was a child.

I’m looking forward to it!
