Hello everyone.
The other day I was eating lunch in a restaurant. The songs from the radio station were really good. After a couple of songs, they played a very familiar song.

It was We Are The Champions by Queen (伝説のチャンピオン). I started to follow the lyrics. It was quite easy for me to do so because I had heard the song at least 50 times or even many more times in my life.
それは、クイーンの日本語のタイトルでいう”伝説のチャンピオン”でした。 私は歌詞を追い始めました。 それまでに、少なくても５０回か、それ以上にこの曲を聞いたことがありましたので、とても簡単なことでした。

When it came to the main part, Freddie Mercury, the lead singer, sang, “We are the championS, my friends…” I was a little surprised. Until that moment, I had thought that the song’s title was “We are the champion” instead of “We are the champions”
曲がメインパートにきた時、リードシンガーのフレディー・マーキュリーが”ウィー アー ザ チャンピオンズ マイ フレンズ～”と歌いました。 私は少しビックリしました。 それまで英語のタイトルは”ウィー アー ザ チャンピオンズ”ではなく、”ウィー アー ザ チャンピオン”だとばかり思っていました。

Failing to notice the ‘s’ sound from ‘champions’ could happen quite easily for the ‘s’ is connected to ‘my’ and they sound as if they are one word, ‘smy’. This, how to speak English like the way native speakers do, is exactly what I have been learning at CHEERS. By the way, out of all of Queen’s songs, I like “Killer Queen” best, because that song, in my opinion, has the very essence of the band. Anyway, let’s enjoy studying English! See you.
