Hello, everyone! As I said before, I started listening to BBC radio podcasts last September. I also started taking Accent Reduction lessons a few months before that. I can surely say that I hear and understand much better now than I did last year what the people on the radio programmes talk about.

I believe this is mainly due to the fact that the way I speak English now is very different from what it was a year ago. For instance, the sentences “I can’t find anyone else in such a short time. Won’t you at least ask her?”, are pronounced like “I carn(t) fain deniwon nelsin su cha shor taim. Won chu watleas tas ker?” They look puzzling, don’t they?

Actually you will notice that many of the BBC radio presenters speak high standard Oxford English, so-called BBC English. It is the same way of speaking English that I have been learning at CHEERS. As you mentioned, to speak English correctly is really important thing to me, too.
If we can speak with the right pronunciation, we can also listen to what native speaker says precisely.
That’s why I come to CHEERS; to talk to the native speakers and have my speaking corrected.
I’m realy interested in phonetic symbols and accent now.

Now I have found an another fun to do, to be honest.
I watch some episodes of Black Adder on YOU TUBE every night.
If you have not yet watched any, I strongly recommend an episode “Macbeth(I am sorry but the spelling could be wrong.)” to you. It is undescribably hilarious!

I tried to watch Black Adder on YOU TUBE but I could’t make it.
I know a bit about Macbeth as my major was English literature.
But I wasn’t diligent…I’m not familiar with Shakespeare.
If only I had understood the importance of learning in my schoool days.
